The "space solar power station system project", named as "day by day project", is launched today at xidian university in order to more efficiently convert sunlight into direct current for military and civil use in space. With the start of the project, the project ground verification platform -- the world's first full-system and full-link ground verification center for solar power stations -- built by the academician duan baoyan of xidian university of science and technology landed in xi 'an at the same time.
As a national strategic infrastructure, space solar power station project is a super project urgently needed by aerospace technology to serve national economy and national security. The project USES new engineering techniques to effectively collect the solar energy in geosynchronous orbit, transmit it back to the ground by means of wireless energy, convert the microwave into direct current and then send it into the ordinary power grid.
As an important representative of "the fourth generation energy", space solar energy has many advantages that cannot be compared. In theory, a 1,000-meter-wide ring of photovoltaic cells in geostationary orbit could receive a year's worth of solar radiation equivalent to the sum of the energy contained in earth's known recoverable oil reserves.
According to duan, the concept of space solar power station was proposed by American scientists in 1968 and has been under international research for more than 40 years. Since the 1980s, China has been tracking the research and development in this field. With the China academy of space technology as the core, a series of research work has been carried out by the research teams of China academy of engineering physics, xi 'an university of electronic science and technology, chongqing university, etc.
In 2013, duan baoyan and Yang shizhong, academician of chongqing university, sent a letter to general secretary xi jinping, expressing the idea of strengthening key technologies of China's space solar power stations, which was approved by the general secretary. Sixteen ministries and commissions, including the ministry of industry and information technology, the national development and reform commission and the ministry of science and technology, organized more than 120 experts to demonstrate the system and put forward the development plan and road map of China's space solar power stations.
In the past five years, duan baoyan led the team to carry out systematic research, and in 2014, he put forward the OMEGA, an innovative design scheme of space solar power station that leads the world in terms of power to mass ratio (electricity generated per unit mass). Compared with the ALPHA solution in the United States, the power generation capacity can be improved by 24% when the system quality is the same, which is highly concerned by domestic and foreign academic circles.
At present, the project has been included in the ministry of industry and information technology major basic research support projects, the ministry of science and technology major research and development program projects. According to the proposal and discussion of duan baoyan, the "space solar power station system project" was named as "day-by-day project" by xust, which means "kuafu day-by-day", implying that the space solar power station project will benefit mankind.
At today's launch ceremony, duan baoyan reported on the project content. The "space solar power station system" key laboratory and cross research center of shaanxi province were unveiled at the same time.
